Farscape: An interview with Will Sliney

This week the Comic Cast pulls up a chair for a chinwag with Cork comics artist Will Sliney. Will  is the artist on Boom! studios comic book series of Farscape . He’s also drawn for FutureQuake, Rob Curley’s 1950s superhero comic Atomic Rocket Group 66 and the webcomic The Symptoms with Dave Hendrick  for Zuda. Here he talks about all of the aforementioned comics, how he got his break into the industry, his work on Classical Comics’ adaptation of Shakespeare’s Richard III that may never see the light of day and his own superhero comic The Age of Heroes. A limo pulls up to the red carpet, cameras flash in a blinding flurry, people jostle each other just to get a look – who could it be? Why it’s the Comic Cast of course! They’re all here to see us review Nathan Edmondson/Christian Wards’ Olympus, Guy Delisles’ Albert and the Others, Mark Waid/Peter Krauses’ Irredeemable, Tommie Kellys’ Road Crew 1: For Sale, Marvels’ Girl Comics and Miguel Martin’s The Weekly Woe. Over drinks in the VIP lounge, we’ll debate Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland and the DVD release of Fantastic Mr. Fox. We’ll be speaking to Rob Curley of Sub City/Atomic Diner about his latest comic Róisín Dubh in collaboration with Maura McHugh and Stephen Daly and he gives us the low down on Free Irish Comics Day 2010. And if all that didn’t deserve a standing ovation, we report live from the Oscar party in Ballyfermot College in black tie where the college that spawned four of the Irish nominees waited with baited breath, as did we, to see who would claim a golden statuette at 4am in the morning! We’d like to thank ourselves for all our hardwork. And God.

Sloth: An interview with Brian Coldrick

This week your friendly neighbourhood Comic Cast talks to Dublin based artist and illustrator Brian Coldrick. His first solo exhibition ‘Shrunken Head’, ran during February 2009 in the Monstertruck Gallery. His ‘Eye on Dublin’ feature appeared regularly in Totally Dublin and he’s worked on everything from editoral pieces to posters, from cd packaging to character design. Here he discusses his experience in art school, how to survive working as an illustrator, board games and of course that sloth. Enjoy.
